Fourth Sunday After Easter – May 15th, 2022: Propers and Announcements

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Here, for your convenience, are the Propers appointed for this Sunday, May 15th, 2022 – the Fourth Sunday after Easter – followed by the announcements that will be appearing in the bulletin:

The Propers for the Fourth Sunday after Easter
The Book of Common Prayer 1928

The Collect.

O ALMIGHTY God, who alone canst order the unruly wills and affections of sinful men; Grant unto thy people, that they may love the thing which thou commandest, and desire that which thou dost promise; that so, among the sundry and manifold changes of the world, our hearts may surely there be fixed, where true joys are to be found; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Epistle. St. James i. 17.

EVERY good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

The Gospel. St. John xvi. 5.

JESUS said unto his disciples, Now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart. Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they believe not on me; of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

Announcements – Week of 15 May 2022

I shall be endeavoring to make this a regular feature of the bulletin, so as to both reduce time spent on announcements after the service, and also to give people something to take home with them and keep track of what is going on in the parish. God being my helper!

If you are a visitor:

Welcome! Thank you for being here. We are very pleased to have you with us, and hope that your worship at Christ Church Anglican was a blessing to you. Please sign the guest book on the table in the narthex, and include your email address to be placed on our parish email list: you won’t be bombarded, but it’s a good way to keep in touch. And may God bless you!

Donations invited for Bibles and Hymnals

If you would like to make a donation to help defray the cost of our recently-purchased Bibles or the replacement hymnals we need to purchase (as many of our existing ones are falling apart, and/or missing pages), please see our Treasurer, Bud Saulsbury. Many thanks!

Kiwanis Blueberry Sale 2022

The annual Blueberry Sale by the Kiwanis Club of the Sandhills is going on! Proceeds will benefit children of Moore County and beyond. Cost is $33 for a flat of 12 1-pint boxes of blueberries – please see George Hillard for details, or sign up using the form on the narthex table. You can also order by phone or online: see form for details. $2.75/pint (order by flat) is a very respectable deal for blueberries, even without the charitable contribution aspect! And I am reliably informed that these are excellent blueberries, locally grown and picked the day before delivery.

Matthew 25:40 Project (Sandhills Student Assistance)

We continue to collect protein bars for this worthy project, which provides nutritional and other targeted support for students of Moore County schools who are in need. Jack Kennard and I (Fr. Tom) sit on the board of SSA, which relies on teachers, guidance counselors, and social workers to identify students in need of assistance, and then provides it with a mini-mum of bureaucracy. Protein bars are our parish’s contribution to this worthy ministry. Please donate as you are able!

Diocesan Synod – Diocese of the Holy Cross (ACC)

The Diocesan Synod of our jurisdiction, the Diocese of the Holy Cross – now a non-geographical diocese within the Anglican Catholic Church – occurred this past week at the Cathedral Church of the Epiphany, in Columbia, South Carolina. Fr. Tom and George Hillard attended this successful and enjoyable opportunity to participate in the ongoing governance of Diocese, and to network and fellowship with other clergy and laity in the Diocese of the Holy Cross.

Faithfully,

Fr. Tom Harbold
